Community comes together for Heart Beat Club
Royal Life Saving WA recently partnered with Culture Care WA to deliver a Heart Beat Club session supporting 28 members of the local Chinese community to build essential emergency response skills.
Delivered by trainer Liz Fowler, with the support of our Inclusion Officer, Harry Luan, the session provided practical training in basic first aid and CPR, with a focus on responding to emergencies involving infants and children.
The Heart Beat Club is a community education program that builds skills and confidence in managing common childhood incidents such as choking, burns, scalds, and drowning. Participants are also taught how to perform CPR on babies and young children. “These skills aren’t just lessons, they’re tools that could make all the difference when it matters most,” said a representative from Culture Care WA.
This session was delivered with the support of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to safety education among multicultural communities.
Currently, only 59% of parents in WA know CPR. This number is often lower in multicultural and lower socio-economic communities.
Royal Life Saving WA offers Heart Beat Club Community Grants to support community groups, schools, and organisations across Western Australia in delivering free first aid and CPR training. If you believe your group could benefit from this education, we encourage you to apply at the link below.
