It’s never too late to learn to save a life with Heart Beat 45+

If someone collapsed near you, would you know what to do?

On 25 May, Royal Life Saving WA partnered with the Indian Society of Western Australia to deliver a Heart Beat 45+ session at the ISWA Centre in Willetton. The program equipped participants with the knowledge and confidence needed to provide lifesaving CPR and first aid during a critical situation until emergency services arrive.

Heart Beat 45+ course trainer with participantIn many emergencies it's a friend, family member, or neighbour who is first on the scene. Led by trainer Maja Pitts, participants were taught how to recognise the signs of a cardiac arrest, how to call for help, and how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator. They also learned to respond to common first aid scenarios such as choking, shock, sunstroke, hypothermia, bites, and stings.

Heart Beat 45+ is part of the Make the Right Call campaign which aims to support older adults to make safe choices around water and build stronger communities through hands-on first aid learning, especially in areas where access to emergency education may be limited.

In Western Australia, 56% of drowning deaths occur in communities with an IRSAD score below 4. Royal Life Saving WA is proud to work alongside community organisations like ISWA to help to close the gap in education and empower more people with lifesaving knowledge.

Thank you to the Department of Health WA for supporting the Make the Right Call initiative.
