Podium finish for Australian teams at Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships
The Australian Lifesaving Team has returned from the 2025 Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships in Swansea, Wales, held from 10 to 13 July.
Across three days of competition in hot summer conditions, Australia’s National and Development Teams delivered strong performances against competitors from England, Canada, South Africa, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Northern Ireland and the host nation, Wales.
Australia's Development Team finished second overall, while the National Team placed third, with a total of 14 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals. Australia also topped the women’s medal table, placed third in the men’s, and finished second overall in the club standings.
Among the standout contributors were a group of Western Australian athletes and members of the coaching team whose efforts played a key role in Australia’s success on the international stage.
WA athletes Eleanor Flowers and Mitchell Tuckey were part of the Development Team, both collecting medals across team events. Eleanor also delivered two individual podium finishes where picked up bronze in the 200 metre Obstacle Race on Day 1, followed by gold in the 200 metre Super Lifesaver on Day 2.
Western Australian National Team Coach Bec Hartman and Team Manager Jen Jones, as well as Development Team Coach Ethan Garland and Assistant Manager Rob Dale supported athletes throughout the week, both poolside and behind the scenes.
Speaking after the event, Bec Hartman said:
“I am incredibly proud of our teams. All athletes swam personal bests and we are very pleased with their development as individuals and team members.”
Sunday was a huge final day of competition capped off with the Presentation Dinner where several Australian results stood out, including Chelsea Jones breaking the Women’s Rescue Medley Record and Brayden Woodford topping the individual point score rankings alongside her.
The focus now turns back to Australia, where preparation begins for the Australian Pool Lifesaving Championships to be held next year in Perth. With strong results on the international stage, these athletes are building towards another season of elite performance.
