Sangam brings culture and water safety together
Royal Life Saving WA joined Western Australia’s Indian community at the Indian Society of Western Australia’s (ISWA) annual Sangam event on 9 August, continuing a strong connection with the organisation and its community.
Held at Riverside Theatre at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, Sangam is ISWA’s flagship cultural event, bringing communities together to celebrate the diversity of Indian culture through music, dance and artistic expression.
The event showcased traditions and cultural heritage from across India, with community groups and cultural associations presenting traditional folk, classical and state-based performances. Sangam’s Fusion Fiesta also brought traditional Indian dance and music together with contemporary and international styles.
Royal Life Saving WA Inclusion Team member Harry Luan attended the event, connecting with community members and continuing the organisation’s engagement with ISWA.
Royal Life Saving WA has attended a number of ISWA events, including the annual Holi Festival, providing opportunities to build relationships with the Indian community and increase awareness of swimming and water safety opportunities.
“Attending ISWA Sangam 2026 highlights the importance of bringing communities together through culture, connection, and shared experiences,” Harry said.
“At Royal Life Saving WA, we believe that water safety is for everyone, and engaging with diverse communities helps us create more inclusive pathways for people and families to enjoy our waterways safely.”
Community engagement plays an important role in connecting people with opportunities to develop lifesaving skills. Royal Life Saving WA is currently supporting 35 multicultural swimming programs across the state during Term 3, alongside community education initiatives including Water Safety Talks and Heart Beat Club sessions.
By being present at culturally significant events such as Sangam, Royal Life Saving WA can continue building relationships with communities, raising awareness of available programs and helping ensure more Western Australians have access to swimming and water safety education.
