Landscape Elements supports swimming lessons at Jigalong Remote Pool
Landscape Elements has made a generous $5,000 contribution to Royal Life Saving WA to support the delivery of swimming lessons for children in the Jigalong community.
The funding will help more local children take part in Swim and Survive lessons at Jigalong Community Swimming Pool, giving them the chance to build confidence, learn practical water safety skills and stay safer in and around the water.
Landscape Elements Managing Director and Founding Owner Nathan Phillips has spent many years working alongside remote communities across Western Australia. His connection to the Remote Pools Project began 26 years ago, when he helped landscape the pools at Jigalong, Yandeyarra and Burringurrah during their construction.
Having seen firsthand the important role these pools play as safe and welcoming spaces for children and families, Nathan’s support is now helping more children take part in vital swimming and water safety education.
Royal Life Saving WA Executive Manager Community Development Greg Tate said the contribution from Landscape Elements will have a meaningful impact for children in Jigalong.
“Nathan’s support is greatly appreciated and the children of the Jigalong community will benefit from more opportunities to take part in swimming lessons,” he said.
Swimming lessons play an important role in reducing drowning risk and building lifelong water safety skills. In Western Australia, more than 1 in 5 children miss out on swimming lessons each year, leaving many without the confidence and skills they need to stay safe around water.
Access to these lessons is especially important in the Pilbara, where Aboriginal Australians are almost twice as likely to be involved in a drowning incident. By supporting lessons at the Jigalong Community Swimming Pool, Landscape Elements is helping children develop practical skills that can protect them in pools, rivers, creeks and other aquatic environments.
For communities like Jigalong, the local pool provides a safe, supervised space where children can learn important skills, build confidence and spend time with family and friends. Regular lessons also support children’s wellbeing and help create safer futures around water.
Royal Life Saving WA thanks Landscape Elements for its generous support and for recognising the importance of water safety education in remote communities.
