Mandurah accountant has the lucky numbers

Volha receiving her winning checkA little bit of luck can go a long way, especially when you are the April Royalty VIP Raffle winner!

Volha, who has been supporting Royal Life Saving WA since 2021, was finally rewarded for her generosity with $10,000 cash in our latest VIP raffle.

Having moved to Australia from Belarus in 2011, the Mandurah local loves the beach and believes that swimming is an important skill, especially since people can often disregard their limits.

“Belarus is a landlocked country but there are lots of rivers and lakes. People think that they know how to swim but they don’t really. They just know how to stay afloat. A lot of people drown because they are overconfident.”

The accountant couldn’t believe her luck when she received the call, having never won anything more than $40 in the lotto.

“We got so excited! My husband was in so much disbelief when I called him.”

Sir Gallahad with his Dippy Duck toy The win couldn’t have come at a better time as their beloved seven-year-old Great Dane, Sir Gallahad, had just been diagnosed with cancer. He has since undergone surgery and is in recovery with his very own Dippy Duck toy.

So, besides vet bills, what will they spend their winnings on?

Well, the couple has just moved house and plan to spend the money on some new furniture as well as setting some aside for the holiday that has been postponed until after Sir Gallahad’s recovery.

All the funds raised from the April raffle went towards the WA Swim and Survive Fund, which provides access and equity to people who face barriers to participating in swimming lessons.
