Not the only Royals making history this weekend

8 May 2023

History was made this past weekend with the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla; however, this event was not to be outdone by our very own West Australian Royal Life Saving swimming team who competed in the 2023 First National Kimberley Lake Argyle Swim.

This year’s competition saw over 600 participants come together from the surrounding areas, wider WA and interstate respectively.

The annual event, which can be undertaken as a solo competitor or as part of a two or four-person relay team, swimming either 10km or 20km, proves popular amongst its racers, with one competitor stating, “I have done many open water swims and this rates as the best.” Some participants even travelled nearly 8,000kms to get the chance to race in the iconic swim.

One of our Board members, Aaron Brinkworth, also assisted the team on their way to victory as a support paddler.

The team was crowned winners of the swim, making everyone in the organisation very proud and have some impressive stats to back it up. They swam the second-fastest time in the history of the race, a mere seven seconds off the existing race record.

Royal Life Saving were participating in the Kimberley event to promote our Remote Pools program funded by the Department of Communities. This program helps to provide health, social, educational and justice benefits throughout the Kimberley and other regions of Western Australia.

Congratulations to the team once again!
