Trainers raise the standard at annual seminar
Royal Life Saving WA’s Trainer Seminar is a chance for our incredible trainers from all over the state to come together, learn, and celebrate the important work they do in promoting water safety and saving lives.
Yesterday’s 8th annual event brought together a mix of in-person and online attendees, all excited to share ideas and learn new ways to improve the delivery of our programs.
Our first speaker Chris Enright from RTO Logic kicked things off with a deep dive into the revised training organisation standards. With years of experience, he provided a clear overview of the changes and how to navigate them effectively. Later in the morning, he focused on student engagement strategies, sharing valuable tips on making training sessions more interactive and meaningful.
Next, we had two exciting sessions from Carmen Braidwood of Evolve WA, who brought her signature energy to the afternoon. She started with a session on Cultural Diversity and Inclusion, sharing useful strategies for creating more inclusive training environments.
Carmen then led a lively group facilitation session, offering effective techniques to boost communication and encourage interactions within training groups.
We concluded the day with an Honours Awards presentation for five of our amazing trainers:
-
Robyn Scott was honoured with the Western Australia Associate Member Award for her decades of hard work and commitment to teaching and assessing the Bronze Medallion.
-
Lainey Johnson was presented with the Western Australia Guardian Member Award for over 30 years of inspiring students and guiding the next generation of instructors.
-
Sharon Francis was recognised with the Western Australia Guardian Member Award for her efforts in bringing lifesaving education to even the most remote communities, including Christmas Island.
-
Henry Chang was awarded the Western Australia Associate Member Award for his enthusiastic teaching of lifesaving skills in Singapore.
-
Dianne McDermott received the Western Australia Guardian Member Award in recognition of her more than 30 years of mentoring trainers and teaching swimming. We wish her all the best as she begins her well-deserved retirement.
Our trainers are the heart of Royal Life Saving WA and their hard work and dedication transforms lives. A big thank you to everyone who joined us, both in-person and online. We look forward to seeing you at the next one!
