Equipment used in lessons must be regularly checked and maintained to ensure everyone’s safety.
Ensure all equipment items are: |

- Clean – general dirt and dust can hide faults.
- Rust-free – especially if it has been subjected to chlorine for a long period, as this can be a safety issue.
- Not brittle or faded – this can mean the item may be compromised. This can be due to chlorine or sun exposure.
- Not showing signs of mould – this is a safety issue and requires cleaning or replacement.
- Not frayed – this may compromise the item.

- Ensure items are checked regularly. A safety schedule should be implemented and recorded when equipment is checked.
- If you see something that is faulty – report it and remove it immediately from use.
- All equipment should be regularly cleaned to ensure there is no build-up of mould and bacteria. A regular cleaning schedule should be implemented.
- Replace equipment on a regular basis. Keep record of purchase dates and expected replacement dates.
- Store equipment in a well-ventilated space where items can drain and dry quickly.
