Swim and Survive for Teens and Adults provides a pathway for late learners who have not had the opportunity to gain swimming and water safety skills or for those that want to develop their skills further for aquatic recreation or a career pathway.
The Curriculum has a number of levels of progression to meet the needs of beginners to intermediate and progressing to more advanced. The resource supports and guides teaching participants from all different backgrounds and abilities.
Teenagers who have little to no experience in learning to swim can utilise the program to fast track their aquatic learning. If teenagers complete level 03 they can either progress to level 04 of the Teens and Adult curriculum (and further) or move into level 08 of the main Swim and Survive curriculum.
Many adults enrolling into swimming programs will begin in level 01 or level 02, unless they can swim and only require stroke correction or fitness. It is understood that learning swimming and water safety skills at a later age can be challenging for adults who may have previous negative experiences or fears. Due to this some may take substantial time to achieve foundation skills so achieving an entire level in a short 5 to 10 day program may not be possible but the curriculum provides structure and goals for on-going participation.
Underpinning the pathway is the aim to encourage teens and adults to utilise newly learnt swimming and water safety skills by participating in safe aquatic recreation, with the potential opportunity for a career in the aquatic industry.
