How does work placement for assessment work, and am I insured? ＋
Work placement for assessment purposes allows students to complete specific, required assessment tasks in a real workplace after their training has been delivered. These tasks are defined by Royal Life Saving WA and must be completed under an agreed arrangement with a host organisation. The placement is not general work experience, it is limited to activities directly related to the assessment requirements of the course.
While completing these approved assessment tasks, students are covered under Royal Life Saving WA’s insurance arrangements. This insurance applies only when students are actively undertaking the required assessment activities as part of their course.
Insurance does not extend to general workplace duties or any activities outside of the agreed placement. If a student is already employed at the workplace, they are covered under Royal Life Saving WA insurance arrangements only while completing assessment tasks, and under their employer’s insurance for all other work duties.
The host organisation is responsible for providing a safe working environment, managing workplace risks, and ensuring students are appropriately supported while completing assessment tasks. Students are required to follow all workplace policies and safety procedures and report any incidents to their workplace supervisor and/or Royal Life Saving WA in accordance with workplace procedures.
