Community cricket fundraiser supports Swim and Survive programs

A local charity cricket match has delivered a winning result for water safety, raising $1,200 for the WA Swim and Survive Fund thanks to the generosity of players, spectators and the wider community.

The match was organised by Caversham Dayton Crusaders Cricket Club member Gurdev Singh who, at just 16 years old, rallied the community to support the important goal of drowning prevention.

“I’m passionate about bringing people together and using sport as a way to give back to the community,” Gurdev commented.

Funds were raised through local business sponsorships of the event, donations and a percentage of bar sales and fundraising merchandise sold on the day. Royal Life Saving WA Manager of Inclusion Programs and Capacity, Achol Madong, along with Head of Philanthropy, Laura Kazmirowicz, also attended the match and spoke with families and players about the importance of water safety and the impact of Swim and Survive programs across WA.

“Community fundraising like this has a direct and meaningful impact,” shared Laura. “Every dollar raised goes straight into our Swim and Survive Fund and helps us reach children and young people who may otherwise miss out on learning these vital skills. We are incredibly thankful to the Caversham Dayton Crusaders Cricket Club for choosing Royal Life Saving WA as their charity partner for this year’s charity match.”

The $1,200 raised is equivalent to 60 swimming and water safety lessons, helping more children and adults across WA learn essential skills that could one day save a life.

The Swim and Survive Fund relies on donations from individuals and organisations to help remove the financial barriers to swimming and water safety education. This work is especially important in supporting migrant communities, with one in four drowning incidents in WA involving a person born overseas.

The fundraising total was made possible with the generous support of local business sponsors. Royal Life Saving WA acknowledges and thanks Best Loans, D&D Transport, Indian Spice House and PFG Group WA for their contributions and support of the event.

Royal Life Saving WA sincerely thanks the Caversham Dayton Crusaders Cricket Club, Gurdev and the local community for their strong support and commitment to this lifesaving message.
