After taking care of your family and loved ones, you may also choose to leave a gift in your will to help future generations learn lifesaving swimming and water safety skills.

Charity Wills Week runs from 7 to 21 September, so don't miss the opportunity to write your will for free.

What is a gift in your will?

A gift in your will, also known as a charitable bequest or legacy gift, is a donation you choose to leave to a charity after providing for your family and loved ones.

It can be a percentage of your estate, a specific amount of money, property or other valuable assets.

Many people choose to leave a gift in their will because it allows them to continue supporting the causes they care about long into the future.

At Royal Life Saving WA, gifts in wills help provide lifesaving swimming and water safety programs for children and communities across Western Australia through our Swim and Survive Fund.

Royal Life Saving WA has partnered with Safewill, Australia's leading online will-writing platform.

Safewill allows you to create a legally valid will in around 20 minutes, with straightforward guidance throughout the process. Safewill covers the basic features of will writing including executorship, appointing guardians for your children and pets and estate distribution.

As a Royal Life Saving WA supporter, you'll also receive a 50% discount.

Is this right for me?

If you have a more complex estate and don't think Safewill is for you, then there are other options.

If you wish, you can purchase additional legal advice for a flat fee after you have created your will. The legal advice is provided through Safewill's affiliate law firm Safewill Legal, and provides an opportunity to speak with their Australian wills and estates solicitors.

Otherwise, simply request more information to take to your own lawyer next time you update your will.

Can I choose where my gift is used?

Yes. While legacy gifts are usually directed to the Swim and Survive Fund, we welcome conversations with supporters who would like their legacy to support a particular program, region or community.

Can I use a solicitor?

Yes. While many people choose to use a solicitor, Royal Life Saving WA also partners with Safewill, allowing eligible supporters to write their will online.

Can I change my will?

Yes. Your will can be updated whenever your circumstances change.
