Learn CPR and call 000 in an emergency
In many child-related emergencies, a parent or caregiver is the first person on the scene. Knowing what to do in these critical moments can save a life. Learning CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and basic first aid equips parents with the confidence and skills to respond effectively in an emergency situation.
Every Second Counts in a Drowning Emergency
If a child is missing, check all water areas first – including pools, bathtubs, ponds, buckets, and other water hazards. Seconds matter. If a child is found unresponsive in water, call Triple Zero (000) immediately and start CPR.
CPR Training for Parents: Be Ready to Save a Life
Every parent and carer should know how to perform CPR—especially when it comes to infants and young children. In an emergency, acting quickly can make all the difference. Even if you’re not formally trained, doing something is better than doing nothing—try your best until help arrives.
Like any skill, CPR and first aid need regular practice. To stay confident and prepared, it's recommended to refresh your CPR training every 12 months. Royal Life Saving WA offers a three-hour Heart Beat Club course, specifically designed for parents, grandparents, and carers with young children. The course has a major focus on child and infant CPR and common childhood injuries.
