1.1.8 Associated Programs and Resources

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES

Royal Life Saving has a wide range of programs to extend learning and quality resources to support the delivery of the Swim and Survive program.

Swimming and Lifesaving Manual

The Swimming and Lifesaving manual is a comprehensive resource providing information on all swimming, survival, lifesaving and rescue skills and techniques. The manual features detailed explanations of techniques for all the skills, as well as sequenced images and diagrams to assist with understanding.

Lifesaving Sport

The sport of lifesaving is so much more than a traditional sport activity. Pool lifesaving offers an extension of skills learnt in the Swim and Survive program and tests participant’s skills in rescue, accident prevention and emergency care; teaching skills that will save lives and last a lifetime. Pool Lifesaving builds confidence, teaches teamwork, and is perfect for those who want to add an extra dimension to their swimming. Once techniques for pool lifesaving as a sport are achieved, participants can get involved in the competitive pathway and join a club, state or the national team.

More information on programs and resources can be found on the public Royal Life Saving website, mainly in the Educate and Participate navigation.

Swim and Survive Knowledge Modules

Swim and Survive Knowledge Modules provides an e-learning option for participants to engage with and learn the knowledge content within the Hazards & Personal Safety, Lifesaving and Rescue Strands of the Swim and Survive program.

There is a QR Code on each of the Swim and Survive certificates. Scanning the code will take participants to the Swim and Survive Knowledge Modules website where they can register and complete the modules. There are nine content modules to complete.

Water Safety Challenge

The Water Safety Challenge is an app specifically designed for primary school students in Foundation, Years 1 and 2 (generally ages 5-8 years). The Water Safety Challenge is hosted by a facilitator (e.g. Teacher, Royal Life Saving presenter) where students connect to a unique ‘quiz’ room code using a device (tablet or smart phone) that is used as a “buzzer”. The App is an interactive ‘game show’ style presentation that teaches children about the dangers in and around water at home and other environments, safe places to swim, how to keep safe, how to get help in an emergency and calling Triple Zero (000).
