Royal Life Saving WA's Specialised Access and Inclusion Lessons (SAIL) program provides tailored swimming lessons for children who, for various reasons including disability, may not have easy access to traditional swimming and water safety education.
Supported by the Swim and Survive Fund, Royal Life Saving WA has for several years delivered the SAIL program at Kwinana Recquatic, and more recently has piloted and expanded these lessons in collaboration with swim schools including Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre, Fremantle Leisure Centre and Geographe Leisure Centre.
The launch of the SAIL program in Geraldton, together with the success of SAIL Kwinana, provides a strong case study that will form the basis of an endorsement model for other swim schools seeking to replicate and deliver Specialised Access and Inclusion Lessons to people living with disabilities.
In collaboration with relevant stakeholders including the Disability Steering Committee and Royal Life Saving - Australia, Royal Life Saving WA will support the development of resources to ensure our delivery partners are well equipped to meet the needs of their local communities.
