These supplementary resources are freely available to be used in conjunction with the unit summaries and activity sheets for each year level to teach a unit of water safety. They may be used to supplement other activities in the classroom or by the poolside.
Water Safety Posters
These great water safety posters make for a fun time to learn about safe behaviour when in and around water. Use these to highlight key messages and encourage discussion on what could occur if these safety messages are not followed. A number of versions are available: Foundation, standard and no captions. The standard version is for all years apart from Foundation and the no captions versions can be used for students to write in their own safety tips.

Here you will find water safety tips that highlight safe practises for the home, local swimming pools, beaches, rivers and lakes, farms and when boating or fishing.
The safety tips are divided into two levels: Foundation to Year 2 and Year 3 to Year 10.

Be Water Smart Video Clips
Meet Lochie the Lifeguard and his friends as you watch scenarios in a range of aquatic environments. The clips demonstrate unsafe behaviour and rewind to see what should have happened. These clips can be viewed on Royal Life Saving’s YouTube Channel.

Radio CSAs
Why not try this great classroom activity.
1. Ask your students to listen to the Water Safety Community Service Announcements (CSAs) below. There are samples for a range of aquatic environments.
2. The students can then write their own Water Safety CSA for Radio or TV. Remember the CSA should only be 30 seconds.
3. Your students may even record or film their Water Safety CSA and present it to the rest of the class.
4. Investigate how CSA's are distributed to radio and television networks and when they get airplay.
